Women’s Entrepreneurship Program (WEP)

Established in 2002 in order to provide a means of support for women who suffer the most from high rates of unemployment in Armenia, WEP provides sessions on the skills needed to start a business, assess interests with marketplace needs, create and present a business plan, and build self esteem, empowerment, and ethics.

The AIWA board, in consultation with Varoojan Harikian (AUA dean of extension programs), oversees the program which is updated to cover all aspects of entrepreneurship and related marketing and business development topics.

AIWA plans to continue to expand the WEP curriculum designed to provide intensive training for qualified women interested the basics of establishing and running a small business. Means are being offered on-going support to graduated and to explore access to micro financing for those who wish to establish a small business.  This cooperative program between AIWA and American University of Armenia was established in 2002.
